Emerging artist Spliff has been steadily carving out his place in the music industry with a unique sound that blends rap and melody. Known for his relentless work ethic and creative approach, Spliff shares insights into how he decides which songs make it onto his albums and playlists, as well as his evolution as an artist. When it comes to choosing tracks, Spliff states, “I honestly have 40+ songs in the vault and create 2–3 songs every session. I decide which song makes it by showing a handful of random people my music, and if they bop their head to my song, that’s how I know if it makes it or not.” He adds, “I don’t really have a specific genre of music I stick to, so may the best sound win.”
Every song Spliff creates continues to push his boundaries. He shares, “Every song I create surprises me because I just keep getting better than the previous session I had. I know I have about six hit songs that I haven’t dropped yet because I’m working on visuals. Visuals are key to a successful run in the music industry. So if you add a little bit of visuals, sound, and experience in your music—meaning ‘feelings’ into your song—you create a fan base.”
Reflecting on his early career, Spliff states, “The way I started was in the ‘Drill Scene’ until one day I had an open mic opportunity in front of ‘Talk of the Town,’ and all three judges/hosts said I was too comfortable in my beat selection and that I should change it up and not be scared.” He continues, “So I did—changed the beat selection, and boom, now I can do a little bit of everything and still stick to my rap-melodic sound. But I will not go back to the drill scene; it’s not my style nor comfort zone.” Spliff’s journey highlights the importance of experimentation, persistence, and staying true to one’s artistic identity. With a growing catalog of music and a commitment to delivering both sound and visuals, he is poised to continue making waves in the industry.
