His process comes down to what he calls the “car test,” the “studio test,” and the “phone test.” Zavey states, “When it passes the car test, the studio test, and the phone test. The track must sound good on all three before it is ready to be released.” By listening to the track in each environment, he can hear how it translates across different settings before making his final decision. Each test gives him a different perspective on the record, allowing him to identify details that may not be as noticeable when listening in only one environment. The studio provides a controlled setting where he can focus closely on the production, while the car offers a more natural listening experience that reflects how many listeners may experience the song in their everyday lives. The phone test gives him another perspective by showing whether the record remains clear and engaging through a smaller, more commonly used listening device. For Zavey, ultimately, the process is about making sure the music comes through outside of the controlled environment in which it was created. If it passes all three tests, then he knows the song is ready to be heard by his audience. What he’s got is a practical, consistent standard to decide when a record is really ready to go.
Stepping outside of the sound he is best known for, Zavey is giving listeners a chance to experience a different side of his artistry. When reflecting on what is making his most anticipated track stand apart from anything he has released before, he explains, “My future project is an R&B track, and it’s different because I normally compose mostly rap songs, but I’m releasing a whole R&B-themed album.” The shift toward R&B marks a new chapter in Zavey’s musical journey. While his catalog has largely been rooted in rap, his upcoming project allows him to explore a different sound and showcase another layer of his creativity. Rather than staying within one musical lane, he is embracing the opportunity to expand his artistry and connect with listeners in a new way. The project also demonstrates his confidence in allowing his artistry to evolve naturally rather than limiting himself to what audiences may already expect from him. By stepping beyond the sound that initially established his identity, he is creating space for a broader musical vision.
